Monday – Romaine Salad with Grilled Salmon and Lemon-Parmesan Dressing, Crusty Whole-Grain Rolls

Tuesday – Poached Eggs on Garlicky Kale, Latkes, Homemade Applesauce

Wednesday – Saffron Noodle Cake with Cheese Center, Mustard-Glazed Carrots, Steamed Broccoli

Thursday – Lentil Soup with Balsamic-Roasted Root Vegetables

Friday – Oven-Poached Flounder with Garlic and Citrus Zest;  Beets with Watercress and Orange;  Latkes! (it’s still Chanukah);  Challah

Saturday – Ma Po Tofu, Stir-fried Brussels Sprouts and Kohlrabi, Brown Rice

Sunday – Pasta Puttanesca

Grocery List:

Produce

  • 1 bunch beets
  • 1 bunch watercress
  • 8 oz. fresh greens, such as spinach or kale or swiss chard
  • Baby Romaine or other salad greens
  • 1 head Romaine lettuce
  • 1 1/2 lbs. varied root vegetables (such as parsnips, turnips, kohlrabi,
  • celery root, sweet potatoes)
  • 12 Granny Smith apples
  • 3 lemons
  • 1 orange
  • 2 1/2 lbs. baking potatoes
  • 2 large bunches kale
  • parsley
  • fresh basil
  • fresh thyme
  • 2 bunches scallions
  • 1 lb. carrots
  • broccoli
  • 6 large shallots
  • 1 red onion
  • 1 yellow onion
  • 1 lb. brussels sprouts OR 1/2 lb. brussels sprouts and 1/2 lb. kohlrabi
  • 1 – 1 1/2” piece fresh ginger
  • Kalamata olives, pitted

Dairy/Fish

  • 8 oz. fresh mozzarella
  • eggs – 6, plus 2 per person for Tuesday’s dinner
  • Parmigiano – Reggiano
  • 14 oz. firm tofu
  • 1 1/2 lbs. flounder or other white fish
  • 1 lb. salmon, preferably wild-caught and with skin on

Cans and Jars

  • 28 oz. can whole tomatoes in juice (preferably Italian)
  • capers
  • anchovy paste
  • 1 small can sliced black olives
  • sun-dried tomatoes in oil

Pasta/Grains/Legumes

  • French green lentils (look in better grocery stores or Whole Foods)
  • whole grain linguine (13.25 – 16 oz. package)
  • 1 lb. spaghetti
  • French baguette or other good, crusty bread
  • Crusty whole-grain rolls (check out the freezer section for “bake your own” rolls)

Pantry/Fridge Staples

  • olive oil, peanut oil
  • unsalted butter
  • balsamic vinegar
  • Champagne vinegar
  • sugar
  • baking powder
  • peanut oil or coconut oil
  • bread flour, unbleached all-purpose flour
  • salt, freshly ground black pepper, sea salt
  • red-pepper flakes
  • garlic oil from pizza night a couple weeks back
  • low-sodium soy sauce
  • Dijon mustard
  • cornstarch
  • garlic
  • white wine
  • saffron
  • cumin
  • chili-garlic sauce
  • black bean garlic sauce, such as Lee Kum Kee brand
  • chicken or vegetable broth (6 cups worth this week)
  • Vitamin C tablets or powdered Vitamin C (this stuff keeps for a long, long while)
